When building a roof and arranging a ventilated facade, a windproof membrane protecting the heat-insulating material from adverse climatic factors must be used. It differs in reasonable price, simple installation and durability. Manufacturers produce windproof film with different number of layers and technical characteristics. A wide range allows you to choose hydro-, wind-proof membranes in optimal accordance with the tasks to be solved.
The windproof membrane created from polyethylene and polyester has the following functions:
- protects fibers of heat-insulating material from wind flow;
- helps to reduce heat loss;
- fixes and stabilizes lightweight insulating material;
- protects insulation from precipitation.
The membrane is laid on the outside of the insulation over the frame used for the installation of insulation boards. Fastened with a construction stapler, be sure to overlap and taped with special tape.
High demand for materials such as windproof membranes, caused by the popularity of frame housing, ventilated facades and residential attic. All these structures are multi-layered, the use of insulation allows not only to improve the thermal performance of the building, but also to reduce the load on the bearing walls and the foundation. As part of the "cake" in most cases is mineral wool insulation, it is protected from wind, steam, condensate.
A single-layer windproof membrane of glassine and polyethylene is used today in low-cost private construction. Two-layer and three-layer membranes made of polyester and polypropylene are most in demand. Thin layers are combined into a single structure using ultrasound, which provides the material maximum functionality. In the process of laying the vapor-permeable windproof membrane is subjected to severe mechanical loads. Gusts of wind, structural details of the frame, protruding nails can tear the material, which leads to a violation of tightness and loss of functionality. For this reason, builders prefer three-layer membranes, one of the layers of which is designed specifically to ensure high strength.
Windproof membranes have the following advantages, expanding the scope of application of this material:

- resistance to high humidity and solar ultraviolet;
- resistance to temperature extremes and severe frosts;

Membranes do not emit harmful substances into the environment, including when heated by several tens of degrees. Since most of the films are vapor-permeable, they create maximum comfort in the room, the walls of which are protected by this material from external factors.
To ensure the functionality of windproof and waterproofing films, they must be properly mounted. Most manufacturers of this material complete each roll with instructions, according to which you can easily lay the membrane on the roof system or fix it on the facade of the building.
Leading manufacturers print their logo on one of the sides of the membrane; this is done not only for promotional purposes. Put the film need to print out, and the reverse side is applied directly to the insulation. In this case, the waterproofing of the insulating material and the vapor permeability of the whole "cake" are ensured. In the absence of a logo on the film, it can be laid on the insulation by either side.
Windproof materials are used in the construction of insulated roofs and in the construction of mansards. When using inexpensive double-layer films, a double ventilation gap should be created: there should be a 5 cm space between the insulation and the membrane, and there should also be a gap of 5 cm between the roof material and the membrane. When using super-diffusion membranes, this requirement can be ignored.
